Call for Abstracts: Masa Center Video Guest Lecture Series

Masa Center is seeking abstract submissions for its video guest lecture series highlighting research in Xicano/Latine Studies and Latin American Studies. The series is intended to promote public engagement with these fields and will consist of lectures 20-30 minutes in length that are freely accessible online with English/Spanish subtitle translations. While the following list is not exhaustive, these themes are of particular interest: Mexican/Latine histories in the Upper Midwest; Indigenous social movements or community organizing in Mexico; histories of Mexico and/or Central America; Afro-Mexican experiences; Indigenous perspectives on the Mexican-American “war”; Xicano/Mexican relations; Puerto Rican histories and social movements; Indigenous food sovereignty in Latin American or Latine contexts.

 

Call for Abstracts

For consideration, email the following materials to themasacenter@gmail.com by April 12th, 2024:

  • a written statement (300 words or less) OR a video/audio clip (3 minutes or less) introducing yourself and the research you would like us to consider

  • a CV

  • OPTIONAL: a pdf or link to a relevant work sample (a published article, sample lecture, etc.)

 

Compensation

Guest lecturers will receive a $1,000 stipend for their work.

 

Organizational Background

Masa Center is a non-profit organization and a group of people working to promote political and cultural education for Mexican and Latine communities in Michigan and beyond. La Milpa Michigan is our initiative to increase community engagement with Xicano/Latine studies across the state. In addition to the guest lecture series, the initiative also includes an oral history collection, fellowship program, partnership program and a milpa.
